Quote live rates from more than 40 carriers at checkout, then print the labels after, all on one Shippo connection.
The Shippo fulfillment integration plugs into UltraCart in two places, and that is the whole point. As a shipping carrier it quotes live rates at checkout across more than 40 carriers. As a distribution center transmission mechanism it takes the order afterward, so labels print without anyone rekeying an address.
Shippo was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in San Francisco. It pools its merchants' parcel volume under its own carrier accounts, negotiates against that combined weight, and passes the resulting rates down, which is how a modest shipper reaches pricing usually gated behind enterprise contracts. Beyond labels it covers address validation, package tracking, batch label creation, and international shipping.
Most shipping setups force a compromise. Quote from one carrier and you show a single price when a cheaper service existed. Fulfill out of a spreadsheet and the label stops matching what the buyer actually paid for. Running Shippo on both ends removes that gap, because the rate quoted at checkout and the label bought in the warehouse draw on the same account and the same carrier list.
UltraCart keeps the two halves visibly separate so you always know which one answered. Shippo-quoted methods carry an SPO: prefix, which makes SPO: FedEx: Ground a Shippo quote while plain FedEx: Ground goes straight to FedEx. A rate type setting decides whether shoppers see retail pricing or the discounted pricing your account earns. Both halves have their own sandbox, a test mode on the carrier side and a separate test token on the distribution center side, so the full path can be proven before a real label is ever bought.
Because the two halves are separate systems. The distribution center transport mechanism predates the full rate-quoting integration, so the carrier configuration and the transmission mechanism each hold their own copy of the credential. Entering the key on the transmission mechanism is what routes orders to Shippo for label printing.
It marks a method as Shippo-quoted. A method named FedEx: Ground asks FedEx directly for a rate, while SPO: FedEx: Ground asks Shippo instead. The prefix is how UltraCart decides which system to contact, and it lets you offer both side by side.
No. Shippo's supported methods pass through unchanged, so there is nothing to map or maintain. You do select which carriers to use in the UltraCart Shippo configuration, and each of those carriers has to be set up inside your Shippo account first.
Yes, on both halves independently. The carrier configuration has a test mode for rate quoting, and the distribution center transmission mechanism accepts a Shippo test token alongside the production one.
That is the rate type setting. Retail shows the in-store price with no discount applied, and account shows the rate your Shippo account actually receives. Some merchants pick retail deliberately to build margin into shipping.
Three places. The UltraCart Shipping Department screen, the UltraShip desktop application, or Shippo's own web interface when you route orders there through the distribution center transmission mechanism.
