1. Adele you've been using UltraCart for many years now, how has that relationship been for you and Medslant?
When we started MedSlant 13 years ago a son of a friend setup our first website and shopping cart. That lasted 2 years and since he was doing this on the side I needed to get a real webmaster and she said the first thing we needed was a real shopping cart. She did a market analysis and said Ultra Cart was the best by far: it was an excellent decision.
Once we started using Ultra Cart I loved that the tracking numbers showed up automatically. We used to do our own shipping but when we went to a fulfillment center and it was integrated it saved so much time and gave better service to the customer.
We have since changed webmasters and our current one agrees the Ultra Cart is by far the best option for our business.
2. What is your favorite feature in UltraCart and why?
Customer service is the best thing about Ultra Cart. If I ever have a question I can pick up the phone and immediately get a real person who is knowledgeable not only about Ultra Cart, but about my business. I get an answer and the problem is solved. It is priceless to have such excellent and responsive service.
3. A quick search on Google will find you with an incredible number of organic search links for Medslant. Care to tell us what's in your secret SEO sauce?
My webmaster puts a lot of time and effort into search engine optimization. We send newsletters out every other month and have close to 1000 doctors, speech therapists, sleep apnea clinics and specialists, and other health care professionals who recommend our product. We also send out press releases fairly regularly. In searches, we always aim to be above the fold, preferably in the top 3.
4. It's so easy to buy your products, in fact right on the home page there is a buy now button and with 2 clicks you're in the shopping cart checking out. Has it always been this easy?
I have nothing but praise for Ultra Cart's simple and efficient check out process. When I look at our competitors and don't see a buy now button it makes me even more aware that no one should have to think about how to spend money on our site. One click and they should be able to make a purchase.
5. You also list your products on Amazon and use the UltraCart integration. Can you tell us a little bit about that?
When we started selling on Amazon, the business really took off. We never have a problem with the integration between Ultra Cart and Amazon - everything flows simply and smoothly from amazon to Ultra Cart to our fulfillment center.
Everyone wants simple one click ordering. We take phone and mail orders in addition to web and amazon orders. Everyone wants a quick way to purchase. Also, Amazon provides good publicity for our products. A large portion of our business now comes from Amazon.
When one of our granddaughters was 5 she asked for something and I said I'd look next time out shopping. She told me just to go to Amazon -" it's on the computer, you know - they have everything."
6. Finally, what advice would you give to merchants that are just starting to use UltraCart to power their online sales?
Avail yourself of the customer service at UltraCart and let them help you. Try to use all the tools that are available to you to make your shopping cart easier for your customers. They have so many features that you would never think of to help you sell online so spending time going through their system is very valuable.
I keep an eye on UC on a daily basis and even then because we have so many orders we use UltraCart's automated system to notify us when something is not going right. For instance when we have items that are not shipped for a certain number of days UltraCart tells us about it. When we first started out I could see every order and where it was in the process. Now that we are much busier it's harder to know when an order is stalled, so UltraCart telling us makes that area of the business less stressful.
I like to keep an eye on the UC newsletter to see what's new and to learn what other people say about something that I was thinking about .
We can't just isolate ourselves as business owners, so we try to always keep an eye on what the customer wants and then give it to them.
Customer requests led to our developing an allergen encasement for our pillow. You can't stay stagnant: if you're not growing, you're failing. I love knowing that we are meeting a need to help people solve a problem and to sleep better.
Finally I would just say to "surround yourself with people that will help you reach your goals". We made the choice to surround our online business with UltraCart and that has made all the difference.
